Context
When I joined, trading.com had an incomplete framework from an external agency that needed to be reshaped for the US market.
We had to:
Improve existing flows and design new features tailored to all traders, while reflecting the company’s mission of simple and transparent trading
Improve and scale the design system, share updates across teams, and keep it consistent with marketing initiatives
Add risk warnings, legal notes, and accessibility updates across the funnel to meet US compliance standards
Process
I was the primary Product Designer on the MVP, responsible for the largest features and the design system, while others focused on smaller updates. I delivered over twenty features across onboarding, education, payments, accounts, and advanced trading.
My work included:
Prototyping quickly and using competitor benchmarks when relevant
Collaborating with product managers and engineers in two week sprints and aligning designs with technical constraints
Running internal and external testing and applying feedback through iterations
Sharing design system updates across product and marketing
Documenting and validating decisions in Confluence with the UX designer
Outcome
The MVP launched on time and fully met US compliance and accessibility standards. It delivered a complete set of core flows and advanced capabilities that made the platform competitive with leading US brokers.
Tested with a pool of experienced traders, the product received strong reviews and actionable feedback that guided further improvements. The rebuilt navigation and scaled design system also accelerated delivery across both product and marketing.
Despite the challenges of shaping an MVP under tight constraints, the project proved both demanding and rewarding, laying a solid foundation for trading.com’s growth.
Process
Research & Analysis: We conducted user interviews, surveys, and analyzed in-app analytics to understand the pain points and user needs. We also studied competitor apps and industry trends to gather insights
Information Architecture: Based on the research findings, we restructured the app's navigation and content, prioritizing features and information according to user needs.
Wireframing & Prototyping: We designed low-fidelity wireframes to visualize the new layout and navigation, iteratively refining them based on user feedback. Afterward, we built a high-fidelity, interactive prototype to test the design.
Usability Testing: We conducted usability tests with a diverse group of users to validate the design and identify areas for improvement. Based on the feedback, we made necessary adjustments to the design.
Visual Design & Style Guide: We developed a cohesive visual language, including color schemes, typography, and iconography, ensuring consistency throughout the app. We also created a style guide to maintain design consistency in future updates.
“ With our new visual branding and language in place, the new Shopify brand clearly captures the essence of our current and target customer base, our employees, and our values. ”
